Sustainability Report
Ecology
Ecological action is part of our corporate culture. For example, around 30,000 square metres of our open space are used as flowering areas. We produce our own honey with the support of a local beekeeper. Our heating needs are covered to 90% by wood waste from production; waste is reduced to a minimum. We consistently control our environmental management and are the second German company ever to be certified according to the environmental management system DIN EN ISO 14001. In 2011, CEKA was one of the first companies to receive DIN 16001 certification (later DIN EN ISO 50001) for energy management.
Consistent environmental controlling is made possible by balancing all environmentally relevant variables such as circulating goods, energy, water and waste.
Our products are certified according to the "Blue Angel" environmental label. This proves that our furniture meets the high standards for environmental, health and functional properties. You can find details on the certification of the individual products here.
Sustainable building
CEKA has been a member of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) for many years in order to help shape the future development of a certification system for sustainable buildings and to promote a sustainable built environment.
The mission of the German Sustainable Building Council is to identify and promote ways and solutions that enable sustainable building. This applies to the planning of buildings as well as their execution and use. The DGNB sees itself as a central organisation for the exchange of knowledge, for further education and for raising public awareness in this future-oriented area of the construction industry. The focus of its work is the awarding of a certificate for sustainable buildings.
Social responsibility
As a company, we take responsibility for the impact of our actions on society, especially on our employees and our region. We regularly provide vocational training to young people in the commercial and skilled trades. We provide an optimal working environment for our employees, comply with occupational health and safety regulations and practice open and honest cooperation. Each employee with his or her individual skills and personality is an important team member for us.
Voluntary commitment of the employees is appreciated and supported by CEKA.
We secure jobs in the region and purchase materials, supplies and services from local companies wherever possible, including from a workshop for people with disabilities in the neighbourhood.
In addition, we support charitable institutions and cultural associations in the region with donations in cash and in kind.
Our production
Quality – Made in Germany.
We have been manufacturing high-quality office furniture at our Alsfeld site since 1924, currently on a production area of over 30,000 sqm.
With our products, we design holistic spaces for the new agile working world and ensure satisfaction and well-being at the workplace. Quality, durability and high aesthetic standards are a matter of course for us. Quality assurance and saving resources are the principles we follow in our daily work, which is why we manufacture our products exclusively at our Alsfeld site and source over 90% of the components relevant to production within a radius of 270 kilometres.
Our products are certified with the QUALITY OFFICE quality mark. This mark certifies products and services that go far beyond the usual regulations. In addition to material and processing quality, the ergonomics and design of the products are basic requirements for certification. QUALITY OFFICE combines all the criteria for high-quality products, competent advice, tailor-made service and thus stands for good office furnishings. In 1993, CEKA was the first office furniture manufacturer to receive DIN EN ISO 9001 certification for its quality assurance system.
For us, quality means precise processing of high-quality materials, good design, professionally competent and trustworthy advice and fast, reliable service.
Our history
120 years of consistency and change.
In 1900, the master carpenter Carl-Friedrich Krause founded the company C. Krause in Thuringia. Our history The first wooden products factory of its kind in Germany, focusing specifically on ladders and equipment for household use. After the First World War, the young company moved to Hesse.
In 1947, during a time of reorientation, the course was set for a new corporate future: the production of office furniture. By the late 1970s, the range had been expanded into a holistic office furnishing system; a new, ultra-modern production facility with more than thirty thousand square metres was built. With a keen sense for market developments and innovation, Ernst Walter and Margot Krause led the family business into the leading ranks of European office furniture manufacturers and celebrated one hundred years of company history in the year 2000.
In 2012, the fourth generation of the Krause family found a suitable investor in Joachim Fleischer, who secured the continuity of the tradition-rich company with his experience in the industry and his economic skills. Since then, there have been many innovations in the area of production. In addition to a new wood production plant and an effective carcase assembly line, a new energy-efficient machining centre enables the execution of complex tasks. Since then, investments have also been made in the building, which has been modernised in terms of energy and adapted to the new working environment.
Today, a committed team successfully develops, produces and markets solution-oriented products for working environments characterised by constant change.
